May 1, 2013

It has been a long time since I found the time to sit and update my blog.  Since November, we had a wonderful Christmas, with all that went on at WOC, from the Christmas programs to Gift Wrap.  It seems like it has been non stop since Christmas, we have seen God do some might things within our family in the past 5 months.

We first started out the year with the new sermon series @World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro, TN, the Extraordinary Life through Christ.  We learned how God would take just ordinary people and make them Extra-ordinary.  Through that we heard the testimonies of many people, Angus Buchan, a potato farmer from South Africa that God changed his life and he is now holding "Mighty Men Conferences" all over the word to teach Christian Men to be devoted followers of Christ and lead their families, businesses and lives according to the Word of God.  Angus will be in Middle Tennessee on May 3, 2013 at MTSU to hold his first Mighty Men's Conference here in the US!  Hard to believe he choose Middle TN to come and share with the Men his Might Message.  Hold on to your seats ladies, if your husband's, son's and father's attend this meeting be ready for a change to take place within your home.  Angus was here last year and spoke at the church for a Men's Event and it was powerful!

Another Extraordinary life that God has changed and is using for His Glory is Raymond Berry, I have to be honest I did not know who Raymond Berry was until this study, just thought he was just another person that attended our church.  BUT, my husband Glenn knew who he was.  Glenn can remember when Raymond Berry played football for the Baltimore, Colts.  Hearing how God moved within Raymond Berry's life many years ago is encouraging.  He shared that there were things that came into his life that he did not sign up for but God chose to use him in the lives of may people.

For us to sit and listen to the lives God chose to use in His might plan it gave us hope that through Christ he could use our ordinary life.  I pray everyday that my steps are ordered by God and I will look at every encounter as a God Opportunity.  I want my life to edify God and give God the Glory for things that take place.

We also heard the testimony of  Charlie Daniels and how he had to study hard to learn how to play the guitar and fiddle.  He shared how he would get to the studio early and leave late so that he could practice to be the best he could be.  Through his determination God blessed him and he has to be one of the best Country Music Entertainers I know.  I have seen Charlie Daniels perform with his band and he brings some of the best entertainment to the stage I have ever seen.  But my favorite was the year he sang at Easter at MTSU for the World Outreach Church Easter Celebration...he sang with our Praise and Worship Team and it was so anointed.  He is not just an entertainer but he is also a man who can sing and enter us into the Presence of the Lord.  Every time I hear him sing I just have to smile and stand and worship with him.  He will also be at the Might Men's Conference at MTSU this weekend, what a time that will be.  Men I want all of you to have a blessed time in the Lord this Friday night.

There were many, many others who we heard about the ordinary lives that once they gave their hearts to the Lord became Extra-Ordinary Lives through Christ.  Just think about what he do with your life if you just let him.

I guess you can see where my passion lies, I want my ordinary life to become an Extra-Ordinary life for Christ.

Let's move on to the girls, Morgan, now 15 and Savannah, now 13 have been very busy.  Morgan and Savannah both help lead Praise and Worship for the Children's Ministry at our church.  Morgan works with the 2nd & 3rd graders on Saturday night leading worship for them.  Savannah also works with the 2nd & 3rd graders on Sunday morning leading worship for them.  God had blessed us with 4 beautiful daughters and they all love the Lord with all their hearts.  One day I hope to see all 4 girls serving the Lord in ministry at the same time.  Morgan plays guitar and keyboard for the worship team on Wednesday Nights at JV Infinity for the 7 & 8 grade and Savannah sings for the praise and worship team on Wednesday Nights.  Morgan has learned to run the Pro-Presenter (?) for Thursday nights H.S. Infinity, {I had to ask what that was when I first heard it, it is the big screen with the words to the songs, announcements and scriptures on it for everyone to follow along} she also plays guitar for H.S. when needed.  Morgan and Savannah have had several opportunities to perform in big Church and that has also been a huge God event in their lives since they both love praise and worship.

Glenn is still working at Publix, he is praying that things will change and I will go back to work and he will stay at home with the girls.  We will see because we have given that to the Lord to work out.  Praying for his will for our lives. Erin, our oldest and Luke her son are doing well.  Luke is now playing T-Ball and he had his first game the other week and he was so cute in his picture with his mom.  Heather, has been married for a year and her and her husband Eric is in the process of buying their first home.  Heather is learning to pray even more than ever before, lol, she is learning first hand how hard and frustrating it is when trying to buy a home.  Dylan our other grandson is doing well, he is in school and things seem to be going well for him.

Well, I think we are up to speed with things that are going on...hopefully I will be checking in before too long and I pray that God will use you to be that Extra-ordinary person for Him.

November 2012

Hard to believe that it is November already.  I entered the year of 2012 stating this was a year of victories.  I wanted to see what God was going to do this year and God has done just what he said he would do...
Joel 2:28-32 "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.  Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit. And I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon and blood, before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.  And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord SHALL BE SAVED. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the LORD CALLS."

God is good and his mercies are new each day.  I stand on that promise.  We have seen God move on behalf of our family more times than we can count...from healing of our bodies to providing financially on our behalf.

We have had the opportunity this year to hear many speakers at our church that provided such insight to what the Word of God says.

Mark 6:31-32 We need to learn to spend more time with Jesus, reading, praying and most of all listening to what God is saying to us.  We need to be still so that we can hear his voice.
There was one question that was asked during one of these sermons that really made me stop and think, "Why does the 'church' walk so close to the world?"  We are in this world but not of this world.

If you have some time check out these two websites...
Angus Buchan and Lance Lambert
these two men were at our church this year and the words they spoke were what the children of
God needed.  Take the time to listen to their messages and you will be blessed.

It is time to be thankful for what God has done in our lives and most of all what God has done in the lives of our friends and family.  Think about how God has blessed you this year and be still to hear what he has in store for you in the next two months and most of all be sure to Trust Him to meet all your needs.

Spring is in the Air!
It is hard to believe we went from a very warm winter...(only seen snow on the ground once this year and that was a dusting,) to summer. This month, March,
should have been the month where we had nice day's in the 70's to cool nights in the 40's and instead we have had warm day's in the 80's to nice nights in the 50's. I have to say that this is really nice weather...I love having the windows open, (my allergies do not like that) being able to go out side and see the flowers in bloom and the trees budding. Just the other day we seen a mother Killdeer sitting on her nest. We were at an event where they had pitched a tent and it was just about 10 feet from this mother's nest. Anytime someone got close to the nest that mother would make some loud calls and flap her wings like she was ready to attack. Very protective of her nest. I loved the fact that she did not leave the nest and she made sure no one came close to her nest.
That has made me think how the Father above watches over us and protects us from danger. I am glad that we have the Father there to lead and guide us. I have read over the story of Job several times in the past two weeks. I am amazed how God the Father gave the Enemy (Satan) the permission to test Job because he knew he was an honorable man of God. God told Satan he could do whatever he wanted except touch his soul. God knew that Job would stand ture to the Father above.

2012 A Year of Victories

I can not believe it is 2012, where has the year gone. I look back and I see where God's hand was in the whole year and I am anticipating to see where His hand will lead us this year. I was praying the other week, (in 2011) and I started to look back at the year and God gave me the word
"VICTORIES"! I pray that this year will be the year of Victories not only in my life but in the lives of my loved ones. I know that God has a plan for this year and I want to walk in His plan and see His Victories for the year.

We are only 2 days into the new year and I can already see where God is moving within our family. The week before Christmas my 2nd oldest experienced her first surgery, minor but serious. She had to have her appendix out. As minor as it is they had to cut her open which will require a longer healing period and she does not like to rest or stay home so this is very trying for her. Two days after her surgery her husband had to have a re-occurring surgery done so for Christmas they both were laid up. I told her God was trying to say something to them and that she needed to read and ask God what he was saying. I know that God will show her if she will just take the time to sit and hear His voice.

My oldest has been such a great example of how God moves. She has been separated for 1 year and her and her son are truly blessed by God. She often calls to share how God has provided for her and her son. I thank God that she knows where her provisions come from, these are not just by accident. I know that because she has learned to trust God this year for a lot of her provisions that He will see her through to the end. Not too sure where 2012 will lead her but I know that she is in God's Hands and He will see her through.

I was sitting taking a break today and was watching one of favorite sports movie, (and believe me I am not a sports fan by any means) "Replacements". I love the fact that they took a bunch of has been sports guys and made football players out of them. I think it is because they are the under-dog that I like that movie so much. When they start to play they give a little background of some of the players and they label them as un-educated, losers, a bunch of misfits. Well I was watching this movie I started to think how God picks people who come from unique backgrounds and uses them for his kingdom.

In the Bible He had a real sense of humor, He choose individuals that were out of the ordinary to
share the Good News of the Gospel.

A harlot, a tax collector, fisherman, a shepherd boy, and many more. Think about where you were and where God has brought you from. What your background was and how God has brought you into his wonderful family to feast on the Good Things of the Lord.

Let us not dwell on things of the past, (last year) but let us dwell on the goodness of the Lord.

Look for your Victories in 2012 and see what the Lord can do for you!

November 8, 2011

Where has the time gone? Last think I can remember was getting ready for the wedding in September and now here it is November. We went to Maryland for the wedding and spent some time there before the wedding. It rained the whole time we were in Maryland and the day of the wedding the sun came out and we really thought it was going to be a beautiful evening for the wedding, boy were we wrong.

We were all ready for the wedding to begin and right before the wedding a huge rain cloud settled over the grounds and it poured, not just for a few minutes but for the whole time we
were there. My daughter started to get upset and her fiance' went up stairs and stood outside
the door to talk to her and try to calm her down, it was very sweet. The wedding went on and
they are now living in Maryland getting to know each other better as husband and wife.

We just got finished participating at our churches Hoedown, that was an amazing time. Our church as been doing this for many years, they rent inflatables, they have cotton candy, drinks,
popcorn and did I mention tons of candy. There are all sorts of games for the children to play and every child gets hands full of candy to take home and eat until their little heart is content or mom and dad takes away, lol. A big event is the cake walk, they play a version of musical chairs and when your number is called you get some sort of cake, cookies, pie, brownies and tons more.
When it comes to events our church goes over and above. There was all sorts of singing, music, and we had a special guest this year, "Yancy", she is a fantastic children's praise and worship leader and all the kids love her, even the big kids at hear lover her. You can visit her web site,
www.yancynotnancy.com

We are getting ready for Gift Wrap at the mall and then our church Christmas Concert and then our Christmas Eve Services and with Christmas on a Sunday, Sunday morning service is going to be Wonderful.

Monday 7/25/11 Spiritual Warfare

Ephesians 6:12 New American Standard
"Four our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." The struggles we face on a daily basis has a name, it is not our family, our co-workers or even or friends it is Satan. We struggle against the spiritual forces that the enemy sends our way to discourage us and even cause us to doubt and wonder where God is in the mist of our storms. I have to remember that when I am struggling with a problem that has come from a conflict with people it is not the person I am struggling with it is the forces of the enemy. Where will I turn, who will I put my trust in? I put my trust in the Lord Jesus Christ who took this battle and fought it for me when he died on the cross over 2000 years ago.

I like how The Message Bible puts the same verse, Eph. 6:10-12
"And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we'll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels." Are you ready for this fight? Are you sure that all your armor is on correctly? Are you ready for the battle. I heard Pastor Allen one weekend quote this scripture, Matthew 3:16 - 4:1; NIV, As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, 'This is my Son, whom I love;; with him I am well pleased.' Then Jesus was led by the SPIRIT into the desert to be tempted by the devil." Have you ever thought that the Holy Spirit would lead you into the desert place to be tempted? As you study the struggles that Christ was faced with it is a comfort to know that he made it through the temptations with the help of the Holy Spirit. Who is your helper during your time of struggles? Are you trusting your spouse to help you through this, you best friend, your family? It's good to have all those people lifting you up in prayer during your time of need but your help will come from the Holy Spirit. Learn to put your trust in the Lord and let the Holy Spirit comfort you in your time of need.

A New Persspective

In the past I have used this blog to share my family events and my crafting projects. Well, I have decided to share some of my favorite teachings form the past 4 years. We moved to Murfreesboro, TN from Baltimore, Maryland back in May of 2007. We have spent the past 4 years growing and learning what God has for us.

A little back ground information about the Hawes Family. I (Sherri) grew up in Baltimore where my father and mother were leaders in the church I grew up in. My mom played the organ and piano and my dad was one of the associate preachers at Evangelical Bible Church. My parents were part of a singing group which would travel to different churches singing and preaching. There were 3 couples and the men would take turns preaching and I can remember two of the ladies my mom and her friend Phyllis would play the music. I grew up knowing nothing but church. I loved it.

When I was 16 I taught a Sunday School Class to 5th & 6th graders and I truly enjoyed that time. I was also very involved in our youth services on Friday Nights. We had youth leaders who would have the opportunity to teach and conduct the services on Friday Nights for 3 months at a time. I loved teaching and most of all I loved singing. I sang with 3 other girls at our church while growing up and then just sang solo. I had the opportunity to lead praise and worship at our church along with the opportunity to sing at our church annual Camp Meetings where all the churches in the organization would come and meet for the whole week having services in the morning and then again at night. There would be anywhere from 200+ that would attend these meetings at night.

At age 15 I met my husband, Glenn where he came to church for a few months until he found out how old I was...then he hit the road, ha ha. He was older than I was. At age 18 I seen my husband again the day after I graduated from High School, the words I yelled at the red light that day, "I LOVE YOUR CAR" brought him back into the picture. We started dating and we have been married for 30 years and yes there have been ups and downs but God has kept us true to each other and most of all we have kept God in the center of our marriage.

In the 30 years of marriage we have been involved in church ministry in various areas, from youth ministry, children's church, small groups, nursery leaders and many more areas. Church has always been in our lives but now I can say that God is not leading and guiding us in all areas. In the past 4 we have learned so much more. In this blog I will try to share with you what we have learned and hopefully you will hear what God has for you and your family.

We have four daughters and it has been a wonderful pleasure having them in our lives. God is good and He has kept all of us in his arms over the past years. Our oldest lives in MD and has a son Luke that is the joy of her life and ours. Our 2nd oldest will be married this September and we cherish the days ahead, knowing that God is in Control. Our two youngest live with us in Murfreesboro. Ours two youngest enjoy serving at church in all sorts of ministries. Our youngest has done Kids Choir at our church, World Outreach for 3 years now. She loves performing and singing. Savannah also does praise and worship every weekend at church in the 4th-6th grade, Momentum. She truly loves the opportunities she has to serve at church. For the past year she has been involved in S.A.L.T. this is leadership program at church and it stands for Student Action Leadership Training. During this past year she has learned the importance in serving at church and being happy to serve wherever needed. She is going to miss doing this next year, she will graduate from the program in August and will be heading to
J.V. Infinity. Morgan has had many opportunities to server in the past two years at church. Morgan plays guitar and is learning keyboard. She has been part of the Praise and Worship team of J.V. Infinity for over a year and loves playing music. She also serves in the children's ministry by during Praise and Worship on the weekends for Kidmo, 2nd and 3rd grades. For the past 3 months Morgan as been working in the children's nursery serving with the little babies as she calls them, this is another ministry she loves doing.

I am a stay at home mom which home schools our two youngest. I have been homeschooling for over 14 years, my two oldest have graduated from and gone on to be legal secretary and a beautician. Our two youngest...well lets just say I think they will end up being in church ministry. At least that is where they are headed...God is in control.

OK, you have been brought up to speed. I have linked a few pictures of our family, I hope you enjoy reading the blog as we grow together.
